May brings us a fruit forward washed coffee from Rwanda – from which we haven’t offered coffee in nearly a year.
Coffee has been grown here in western Rwanda for generations, but only in 2017 was a washing station built nearby to serve the local growers. Access to a local washing station has improved the quality of the coffee tremendously, as well as empowering the local farmers to form this co-op which has further improved the coffee quality and the prices at which the farmers can sell their coffee.
As if being 100% Bourbon weren’t enough, this coffee is also said to be enriched by the native honey bee population that lives around the Nyungwe forest where the coffee is grown. Those bees, the black humus soil, and the cool breeze from the nearby Lake Kivu all contribute to the profile of this unique coffee.
